Debrecen and Pest County represent Hungary at the 8th National Gardening Exhibition that opened last weekend in Chongqing, China. The gardens built by the Hungarians will be preserved – local gardeners will cultivate them in the future.
This year, 32 foreign cities or regions are represented at the prestigious event. The gardens built by the organizers and the participants at the 220-hectare expo portray 127 different areas. 12.8 km of roads, 7 bridges, 3 tunnels and several buildings have been constructed in the park in about 1.5 years. Unlike the sites of other traditional flower shows, this venue will remain a feature of the city and will function as a park in the future.
Thousands of visitors go to the park every day. They can admire the works of gardeners from the French Tolouse or the German Düsseldorf, among others. The gardeners from Pest County used elements of Hungarian folklore tales and those from Debrecen pictured a scene from the traditional life in Hortobágy, with carts, sweep-pole wells and a farmhouse with porch.
