The authorities of the two countries are patrolling the Hajdú-Bihar section of the Romanian-Hungarian borderline.
The patrol service began on 21 October. Since then, more than 500 checks were carried out, primarily in order to restrain illegal migration. Three border agencies form both country take part in the cooperation. Each border agency is represented by 1 person. On the Hungarian side the border agencies in Biharkeresztes, Létavértes and Nyírábrány are participating, while on the Romanian side, those in Bors, Bihardiószeg and Érmihályfalva. Csaba Fekete, head of the Hajdú-Bihar County Police Headquarters said that the ultimate goal is to reach cooperation between the border patrols of Romania and Hungary to secure the common border section after Romania’s accession to the Schengen countries.
