According to the Regional Traffic Alliance of Debrecen, trains from Debrecen to Nagyvárad (Oradea), just like extended railway system in the suburbs of the town, are real plans and not utopias.
Almost no one chooses train if they want to get to settlements very close to Debrecen, as they leave for bigger towns of Eastern Hungary once in one or two hours. They also claim that trains should stop at the Western Industrial Park just like at the shopping centers.
Before one could get to Nagyvárad (Oradea) by train – nowadays we have no such possibility. In the first 13 years of the 20th century, trains ensured economic connections between the two regions. By now, however, there are almost no rails. One can get by train only to the station of Nagykereki. However, long lines of cars and crowded buses are ranging towards the work-, commercial and service center.
The idea of a general traffic center on the Petőfi square has been renewed, including not only railway and bus station, but also terminal of local buses. On the basis of an EU-tender, preliminary plans of the center have been prepared. The licenses will probably be available till the end of the next year, and between 2014 and 2020 can it be handed in for EU resources.
