On Thursday evening NAV finance officers on duty found nearly 10.000 packets of cigarettes without Hungarian tax stamps in the car of a Ukrainian man who might be fined up to 9 million forints.
Major József Kupecz excise officer reported that the wagon was like “a rolling cigarette repository” – it was filled to the brim with cigarettes, nothing else would have fit into it. The vehicle with a Ukrainian driver was checked by the officers near Debrecen. The driver said he was only a delivery person, he had been told to drive the wagon from Nyíregyháza to Budapest and that 150 EUR was offered to him for doing this. The finance officers seized the 6 million forints’ worth cigarette together with the wagon and initiated proceedings against the driver.
