In order to increase the number of live donor kidney transplantations and to enhance the safety of such operations, joined operating rooms have been designed in the Institute of surgery in Debrecen.
Prof. László Damjanovich said that with the new operating rooms the possibility of parallel operations had been created. While in one of the rooms the kidney of the donor is removed, in the other one- that is separated only by a door- the patient is prepared for the implantation and can get the organ within a few minutes.
There were two special visitors of the press conference held in connection with the operating rooms. Two young sisters, the older one of whom gave one of her kidneys to the younger one. The latter one was hard to convince but her sister stood her ground and today, both of them are healthy and proud of each other.
