The University of Debrecen finished at 417. on the list based on the survey of Webometrics (world universities’ ranking on the web) which evaluated 20.000 institutions.
After the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (277.) and the Eötvös Loránd University (380.) the University of Debrecen (417.) is the 3rd Hungarian university to appear in the ranking. This means a jump of 600 places as compared to last year. The university showed improvement in 3 of the 4 areas considered by Webometrics: the number of websites found on search engines, visibility, document files. “This spectacular improvement is the result of … 12 years of efforts and work, the scientific research findings that are of high level even on the international scale, the successful projects financed by both domestic and European Union resources…” – remarked Rector István Fábián. He also added that the university exploited the Internet-given opportunities to broaden the form of appearance of information about the university and increased the number of these significantly.
The management of the university would like to reach an even more prominent place in the ranking next year, therefore – despite the deteriorating financial situation – they intend to further improve the conditions of the current teaching and research works by means of intensive tendering activity.
