Some fun for Debrecen’s refugees

Culture Local News

All-day programmes were organized for hundreds of refugees in Sámsoni Street, Debrecen last Wednesday, on the World Refugee Day.

As a part of the programmes, sport competitions were held in the morning, while the kindergarten children of the refugee camp sang folk songs and recited poems in the early afternoon. Currently, around 300 people are staying in the camp in Sámsoni Street, mostly Afghanis. As compared to other European countries, few asylum seekers and refugees live in Hungary. Last year, 1693 people applied for asylum. The aim of the world day is to raise awareness of the life conditions of refugees and to assist their integration.
