A father and his son were brought to trial for committing murder. The two men were sentenced to 15 and 13 years of penal servitude earlier and then they were acquitted since there were no sufficient evidences.
In 1999 Ferenc Burka, the father spent 5 years and 8 months in a penitentiary, after which he was released in the absence of evidence. The father and son sued the Hungarian government for damages and demanded 20 and 25 million Forints.
The Debrecen Public Prosecutions initiated the reopening of the case in March 2012. In the course of the reopening, new witnesses, experts and evidences came to light.
The two defendants were brought to trial yesterday morning.
