A new Hungarian banknote, the new 10.000 Ft was issued on 1 December 2014.
The old version was not safe enough, it was often counterfeited. In recent years, 37% of the counterfeited banknotes were 10.000 Ft. To avoid this, the new banknote has many security elements, like embossment, hologram foil and a security thread; therefore it is much harder to copy.
The old 10.000 Ft banknotes are still in circulation for a while.
