The United States Army Europe Band and Chorus is visiting Debrecen as part of their Central and Eastern European Tour in 2018. Date: Saturday (28th of April) 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Venue: American Corner Debrecen (19/D Bem square)
Program: The band and chorus will host a magnificent and uniquely characteristic show for Debrecen audiences with true American tunes. The United States Army Europe Band and Chorus is currently the largest musical organization of the United States Army outside of the USA. The concert is supported by the US Embassy in Budapest.
The United States Army Europe (USAREUR) Band was originally activated in 1940 and is currently under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Dwayne Milburn. With its partner group, the USAREUR Soldiers’ Chorus, it is currently the United States Army’s third largest musical organization, and America’s musical ambassadors in Europe.
The USAREUR Band is a versatile ensemble in great demand. Components include 65-piece concert, marching and ceremonial ensemble, a Jazz Band, a Dixieland band, a modern brass rock band, and several chamber ensembles. Members earn their positions by audition. Many members hold degrees in music from universities and music conservatories and most have performed or taught professionally prior to their military service.
The USAREUR Soldiers’ Chorus, under the direction of First Lieutenant Taylor Criswell, was organized in 1963 to enhance troop morale through musical performances and quickly proved successful in advancing relations between the American community in Europe and its host nations. The members are volunteers selected from United States Army Soldiers serving in Europe. Once selected, they receive intensive training in vocal performance, dance, and theatrical skills. The ensemble is one of four full-time choral groups in the Army.
The USAREUR Band & Chorus regularly performs more than 200 missions each year Europe, the Middle Eastern, and North African. The USAREUR Band & Chorus has twice been decorated with the United States Army Superior Unit Award. The USAREUR Band & Chorus continues to represent the best of the United States Army.
