Found predominantly in Europe and Asia, the dotted loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) is an ornamental marsh species of the primrose family in the order Ericales.
Its name is a reference to the tiny black dots on the backside of its spear-shaped bright green or variegated leaves. Blooming in early summer, its small star-shaped flowers grow in string-like patterns in between the leaves. Their color ranges from pale yellow to golden yellow – the more sunshine they get, the brighter they become. The dotted loosestrife prefers a cool climate, so it is best planted by pond sides or streambanks, but it also survives in shade or partial shade.
