Happy Birthday to Dana and Dária

Local News

Today is a truly special day as it was exactly two years ago that we welcomed our youngest female Amur tiger twins, Dana and Dária, born after a 3-month gestation period. It has been quite the experience for all of us, both staff and visitors, to follow their development from playful little cubs into equally playful, but strong and majestic, adults. We witnessed their first days as deaf and blind newborn, nursed by a caring mother, their first encounter with the outside world and all its stimuli, as well as the first time they “went on a hunt.”

Highly social and communicative to this day, Dana and Dária are some of our greatest prides as Amur tigers are now severely endangered: their wild population is only 4000 strong according to optimistic estimates. The current number of individuals kept in European zoos under a European Endangered Species Program (EAZA EEP) is a little over 300, including our contribution of 5 tigers.

Come and visit the Zoo to wish the twins a happy birthday in person.
