Autumn Delight at the Botanical Park

Culture Local News

Comprising some 200 species of perennial flowering plants, almost all of them native to Eurasia, Aster is a genus belonging to the daisy family within the order Asterales. Although some of its most iconic species bloom in autumn, there are ones flowering in summer and spring as well.

Asters are popular ornamentals primarily due to their uncommon blooming season and wide variety of colors, with petals ranging between white, blue, lavender, bright pink and purple. Relatively low-maintenance plants, they do fine in rockeries and flower beds alike. They are drought-tolerant but require a fair amount of sunlight and good, loose soil.

Our asters are currently in their full blooming glory, so they are definitely worth checking out in the little garden near the Hungarian Grey Cattle Enclosure.
