An unprecedented unity had come about in the fight against the epidemic in Debrecen. Large international companies had also become supporters – announced Vice Mayor Diána Széles on 14 May 2020.
Families in need may request support through different channels, the Debrecen Charity Board and the Debrecen Support Fund. Of the donations received since the middle of March, the Charity Board has prepared and delivered 1860 food packages to 1600 families. They handed out packs of preserved food, masks, disinfectants, dairy products and baked goods. Thanks to a local enterprise, 1460 portions of warm meal are delivered for lunch to 680 families every day. In addition to the above, the volunteers have handed out several hundred masks, especially to the older age group. International companies operating in Debrecen have also taken their share of local cooperation: National Instruments, Richter and Deufol have contributed money to the defence, and TEVA Pharmaceutical Company has donated disinfectants. Recently, the subsidiary of the German Grampet AG in Debrecen, Grampet Debreceni Vagongyár Kft., has donated a piece of apparatus for analysing coronavirus tests through the municipality to the University of Debrecen. Of the two-million-HUF financial support from National Instruments to the Debrecen Charity Board, the volunteers of the organisation prepared preserved food packages. A family in Dózsa György Street also received packs of the donation.
