The Debrecen 2030 program is a complex and comprehensive landmark strategy of urban development for Debrecen’s shift of dimension and scaling, which will be of key importance for the rest of the century – said Mayor László Papp at the press conference announcing the Debrecen 2030 program in Kölcsey Centre on 9 June 2020.
The event was attended by László Palkovics, Minister for Innovation and Technology; László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen; Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of the University of Debrecen; Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen and Lajos Kósa, Member of Parliament.
– We are leaving behind the failures of the last hundred years and will open a successful new century – said Mayor László Papp.
One of the most important preconditions for creating the Debrecen 2030 program is the political stability that has characterised the city since 1998. For 22 years, we have consistently and purposefully developed Debrecen to be the leading city of the region. It is in the centre of our developments: we do everything for the citizens of Debrecen. This idea lives on in D2030. We are the first Hungarian city that has a complex development program lasting until 2030, supported by a decree and actual financial resources by the Hungarian government – said Mayor László Papp.
The Debrecen 2030 strategy has a dual purpose: on the one hand, it aims to create the internal balance of the city in the system of economy-traffic-welfare-housing, and on the other hand, it intends to ensure that Debrecen shall become a successful Central European regional centre by 2030, taking into account the cross-border and international dimensions of the developments.
In the first phase of the Debrecen 2030 program, between 2021 and 2023, 48.3 billion HUF government support will be devoted to its implementation, with the city of Debrecen, the University of Debrecen and Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. (National Infrastructure Development Company) as its beneficiaries. The program will include the implementation of the Intermodal Transport Hub, the modernisation of tramline 1, the construction of a new tramline in the direction of east-west, and the development of Debrecen International Airport.
