This year’s pavement repair program has started in Csillag Street. Upgrading will be performed at 19 locations of the city in the first phase of the work in order that local people can move around safely on foot as well – announced Viktor Papp, faction leader of Fidesz-KDNP of the General Assembly of Debrecen and Sándor Nagy, municipal councillor on 8 June 2020.
There are several hundreds of kilometres of pavement stretches in Debrecen, most of which can be 30-50 years old. During the time since their construction, the surface of the pavement sections has weathered, subsided, and cross-cracks have developed. The municipality is having local or large-surface pavement repairs done at 19 locations – especially in places with higher traffic – in the first phase of the pavement repairs in 2020. Walkway repairs, stair renovations, and concrete slab pavement laydown started in Csillag Street on 8 June, and are expected to last until mid-August at the 19 locations mentioned. Pavement defects in stretches of walkway in poor condition will be repaired or resurfaced. Nearly 1.4 kilometres of pavement will be renovated or constructed in the first phase from a municipal budget of gross 40 million HUF.
