A new Greek Catholic church – bearing the name Holy Trinity – is being built in Tócóskert. The foundation stone of the building was laid down following the vespers of 5 p.m. on Saturday, 11 July 2020.
The new church will be approximately 250 square metres in size, will have a capacity to host 200 people and will be constructed from 300 million HUF, which amount comes from the church’s own resources and from believers’ offers. The Greek Catholic held an open-air ceremonial service to feast the good news of the construction of their new church in Tócóskert. At the moment, a wooden cross shows the place of the altar in the future Holy Trinity Church.
– A church does not only give place to the community of believers, but also gives it strength – said Archbishop-Metropolitan Fülöp Kocsis, at the ceremony for laying the foundation stone of the new Greek Catholic church. He pointed out: church walls are built to embrace not to separate. It is the duty of believers to fill the church with life and to set an example, thereby further strengthening their community.
Churches are built in times of peace and in prosperous cities by believers who also trust themselves said István Puskás. The Vice Mayor added: this development demonstrates not only the faith of the Greek Catholic community but it also shows that they envisage their lives in Debrecen.
The municipality supported the construction of the spiritual abode by donating the site of the building. The new church is expected to be completed by December 2021.
