Meet Raisin the Big Hairy Armadillo!

Culture Local News
With the upcoming holiday in mind, every day up until the first day of Christmas we will be introducing one of our residents awaiting your support, among whom you are sure to find your favorite.

A resident of our Tropical House, Raisin lives in a mixed-species exhibit he shares with his cousins, the sloths. In the enclosure, there is a significant contrast between the ground level and the upper level. Contrary to the ever calm and leisurely temper of the sloths, Raisin is always up to some shenanigans, like untying keepers’ shoelaces, taking a long bath in his drinking bowl (making the water dirty!) or just constantly bumping against keepers’ legs.
Armadillos are active both during the day and night. They search for food underground with their sophisticated sense of smell. When food is detected, they push their nose tightly into the ground so as not to lose the trace of the prey, and proceed to dig swiftly. They loosen the ground with their strong front legs and then carry the dirt away with their hind legs. Their diet consists of insects, smaller vertebrates, eggs, fruits, seeds, fungi, roots and animal carcasses.
Like Raisin, a lot of our residents are yet to be adopted. If you want to make them really happy while also offering us tremendous help, please consider becoming a zoo foster parent.
An Annual Zoo Pass can also be a wonderful Christmas present and a year-round source of joy. More tips on gifts and how to support us at: www.zoodebrecen.hu/content/supportus.html
