The volunteers of the Debrecen Charitable Body painted and cleaned the apartment house of the Greek Catholic Child Protection Center of Debrecen and Nyírség on Pitypang Street in Józsán on May 19, 2021.
They were able to use the significant amount of paint donated to the charity by PPG Trilak Kft. Last year, which was worth more than HUF 6 million, to beautify the home. At that time, with the help of about a hundred volunteers, the staircase of the building at 22 Derék Street was painted – where Refomix Kft. Operates a temporary home for families and a temporary accommodation for the homeless – and It is also possible to paint the apartment house on Pitypang Street from this significant donation of paint.
Lajos Kósa, Member of Parliament, and Diána Széles, Co-Chair of the Debrecen Charitable Body, also joined the ten volunteers working in the apartment building. According to Diána Széles, the board regularly organizes volunteers for various social support work. Last week, they worked in the apartment house of the Greek Catholic Child Protection Center in Debrecen and Nyírség on Békés Street, now in Pitypang Street, and next week they will also help in painting the apartment house on Kosárfonó Street. Diána Széles considers it very important that there are always a good number of volunteers who have needed help themselves in the past. In this way, they reciprocate the fact that in times of difficulty others have watched over them, taken care of them. And it is also important that more and more young people are volunteers.
Lajos Kósa recalled that 15-20 years ago, the reorganization of large children’s homes into apartment homes where 10-12 young people could live in a family environment began. Although a home community is valued more by a small community than a large institution, home homes also need regular maintenance when all useful work is worthwhile, and such a small community is worth helping. And working together is exemplary.
In addition to helping with the painting, the representatives of the Debrecen Charitable Body also brought toys, sweets and soft drinks to the children and young people living in the apartment house on Pitypang Street.
