A new road section was built on Keresszegi Street in Debrecen

Local News

This year’s road-building construction program in Debrecen started on Keresszegi Street in Tapókerti. The section of Keresszegi Street between Jánosi Street and Kinizsi Street was paved with a development worth almost HUF 33 million, the local government of Debrecen announced in a statement.

On June 30, 2021, Edina Szilágyi, the local government representative of the area, Viktor Papp, the leader of the Fidesz-KDNP faction of the Debrecen General Assembly and the parliamentary representative László Tasó held a press conference on the spot. Edina Szilágyi thinks that although it can be described as short, the 188-meter road section, which has now been paved, is at the same time an important road section of the tap-garden district, which should have received such a good quality road. Work began here on March 29, and this road section was the first of the road constructions to be implemented at the initiative of the population this year. The deputy announced that at the end of July and the beginning of August, the road reconstruction of Kinizsi utca and Virág utca could start nearby so that the most important roads in the area will be of good quality.

Viktor Papp, head of the Fidesz-KDNP faction of the Debrecen General Assembly, said: 2021 is the year of transport development in Debrecen, as more than 35 billion forints will be received from the city budget for transport development purposes this year. Within the framework of the Horticultural Development Program, road construction will be carried out in more than 25 classic horticultural and garden city streets this year at the initiative of the population, and these include the investment in Keresszegi Street. Last week, the city’s general assembly unanimously supported the initiative for the local government to apply for the continuation of the road construction, which had already begun, on the two most important collection roads in Felsőpércsi Street and Csárda Road. For example, rainwater drainage is part of all road construction, without which the life expectancy of paved roads would be significantly shortened. These developments are taking place to improve the quality and safety of transport and will continue in many parts of the city in the future, Viktor Papp emphasized.

Member of Parliament László Tasó drew attention, among other things, to the fact that the railway line No. 100 – Budapest-Záhony – passes along the newly paved section of Keresszegi Street. As adequate noise protection needs to be addressed for the peace of mind of those living along the railway line, it is certain that a noise barrier will also be needed in this area. Planning work for the significant development of the 100 railway line has already begun, and in this context, the expectations of the people living along the railway need to be well thought out. László Tasó also expressed his conviction that in the wake of the outstanding pace, thematic, well-structured urban development work that pays attention to the needs of the population, which will be carried out by his local government, it will not take ten years . Debrecen must strive to make its name synonymous with quality living conditions, a buzzword for everyone.
