The whole forest running circle is undergoing an upgrade affecting its entire surface. The track created during the construction of the stadium is especially popular, which justified the construction of similar ones in two more districts, the mayor of the city announced on September 20, 2021, at a press conference at the site of the renovation.
“The Nagyerdei Stadium and its surroundings are about sports and recreation,” said Mayor László Papp. The mayor said that when the facility was designed, the goal was not just about football, so the idea of a running circle and an ice rink in the northern event space was born.
“Over the past seven years, the runway is ripe for modernization, so we’re completely renovating it. Damaged parts are cut out by the contractor, and locally occurring defects are corrected. Then the whole running circle gets a new cover and a layer of varnish ”
– said László Papp, adding that the course will not be closed in its entirety, only asking the athletes to understand the sections where the specialists are working.
László Papp said: seeing the experience, the city management decided to set up similar running circles in Tócóvölgy and Csapókert, around Liget tér. In both cases, construction is underway.
Tamás Majer, the municipal representative of the district, put it this way: the running track around the stadium is not only used by those living nearby.
“This is the only “rubber tile”-covered running track that can be used in Debrecen day and night without restrictions in winter and summer. I find that there is almost always someone here, regardless of the weather. ”
– said the representative.
The cost of renovating the runway is HUF 44 million gross, and the work is planned to be completed by the second half of October.
