Poverty is still present in Debrecen: two organizations distribute food on the weekend

Local News

Unfortunately, poverty is still present in Debrecen. For those living in bad conditions, food distributions by civilians on the weekends help them not to starve. Several civil organizations in the city help the needy according to their means, reads the announcement of the Debrecen Women’s Public Association of the Unsolicited.

On the last weekend of August, two associations invite the poor of Debrecen as guests.

The Egy Morzsányi Szeret Egyesület is holding its Morzsaparty, combined with the distribution of food and modest school supplies, on August 27, 2022 /Saturday/ from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Debrecen, on Bocskai Square.

At the Morzzaparti, a computer is also raffled off among talented needy children. The condition for participation in the lottery is that the child must be present at the distribution together with the parent with his or her certificate with an average of at least 4. Anyone who has already taken part in this kind of draw of the united and won is a disqualifying reason.

The Debrecen Women’s Public Life Association of Kéretlen Figyelem announces its traditional food distribution for the last Sunday of the month, August 28, 2022, between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Location: Debrecen, parking lot in front of Trafóház on Ispotály Street next to Petőfi Square.

As a result of the high inflation, the increase in utility prices, and the austerity measures of the government, the existence of even more families has been put in jeopardy.

Based on the epidemiological rules, we provide pre-boxed food. We consider it important to take care of each other’s health, so please keep a distance of 1.5 meters. We also recommend using a mask. We provide hand disinfection on site!

We know there isn’t much we can give, but we do it all with a good heart. We would like more people to stand by us for the sake of the city’s most disadvantaged. We invite everyone who wants to help, with both hands, or with financial or in-kind support.

We are waiting for donations from Debrecen residents:

>>We are waiting for applications from BAKERIES, grocery stores, butchers, and RESTAURANTS in Debrecen in order to cooperate;
>> We are waiting for the offerings, food, cakes, SUSTAINABLE food in unlimited quantities;
>> We look forward to TEACHING TOOLS, children’s books, computers, laptops, most poor families lack even the basic conditions of online education;
>> We also welcome volunteer HELPERS who feel they want to do something for the poor;

/We do not collect used clothes./

We are convinced that we cannot be indifferent to those who are not on the sunny side of life, who, through no fault of their own or without, struggle every day. – often in “medieval” conditions – for staying on your feet.

Many of our fellow citizens are waiting for a helping hand. We are aware that we cannot save the world, but we cannot even eliminate poverty in Debrecen. At the same time, we believe that if more and more people stand by us, the many small drops may even become a “sea”.

We would like more and more people to realize that the “invisible” people living in Hungary need help and support. The most important measure of a country’s humanity is how it treats the downtrodden, those pushed to the fringes of society.
