According to Viktor Orbán’s announcement, the government’s multi-billion model project, announced with great fanfare, should be operational by the end of December, but it does not look like the construction of the National Vaccine Factory planned for Debrecen is going according to plan.

According to HVG360, there is no indication of exactly what is being built in the area, not even on the fence, and the security guards also sent the Momentum Debrecen municipal representative away from the area. Even though he said he was a municipal representative, he was asked to leave.
At the press conference of Operatív Törzs on May 8, 2020, the national chief medical officer Cecília Müller announced that the National Public Health Center and the University of Debrecen have concluded a cooperation agreement. It was later revealed that the researchers for the project, which has been in preparation since 2017, are provided by the University of Debrecen, and the technology is provided by Fluart Kft.
After that, the public was only able to learn about the project in exceptional cases: it was one of them, when it was classified as a priority investment in February last year, and then in December, the vaccine factory working group was formed.
The secrecy is no accident, the project is under priority investment and protection. So it is impossible to know exactly how much it will cost. 40 billion were earmarked for it in this year’s budget, and almost as much next year as well. It was also revealed only from the company register that the University of Debrecen and Fluart Innovative Vaccines Kft. founded a joint company with a capital of HUF 20 million.
