In the investment of Debreceni Vízmű Zrt., drinking water pipe reconstruction will take place at the intersection of Hunyadi utca and Rákóczi utca in Debrecen between October 26 and – according to the plans – November 7, 2023.
The renovation of the 300-millimeter diameter asbestos-cement pipe is done using lining technology.
The works will start on October 26, 2023 – Thursday – to ensure traffic, the “top” of the traffic engineering island next to the straight lane will be partially demolished, thus the surface suitable for traffic will be expanded during the construction with traffic restrictions. Construction will continue on October 28, 2023 – Saturday – with the demolition of the casing, then on October 30-31, the contractor will dismantle the fittings, and on November 2-3, the line will be lined. The pavement will be restored – depending on the weather – on November 6-7.
During the construction works, temporary traffic regulations will be in effect in the affected area:
– On Hunyadi Street, the right-turning lane in front of the primary school and the inner straight lane will be closed according to the plans. The traffic in the direction of Rákóczi utca will be ensured by using the bus lane directly, depending on the local conditions, in 2 lanes, with a lane pull, and in the direction of the “small” Rákóczi utca to the left, in one traffic lane. The pedestrian island in front of the Forum shopping center will be partially closed.
– From the direction of Csapó utca, the outermost straight lane of Rákóczi utca (the lane also leading to the shopping center) will be partially closed. It will be possible to ensure the diversion of traffic by first removing the “top” of the traffic engineering island next to the straight lane.
This water utility reconstruction is also necessary because in 2024 our municipality intends to complete the construction of the missing bus lane on the section of Hunyadi Street between Rákóczi Street and Péterfia Street. If the water utility reconstruction is completed now, it will no longer be necessary to deal with it during the planned bus lane investment.
The water utility reconstruction is taking place during the autumn school holidays, taking into account the expected lower-than-average vehicle traffic.
Debreceni Vízmű Zrt asks that those traveling in the vicinity of the mentioned work area avoid this section of the road if possible in order to reduce congestion.
