Debrecen is attracting a growing expat community, so the city is paying special attention to the internationalization process. This relies heavily on feedback from expats and students studying here. Therefore, an online questionnaire survey has been launched to give foreign residents the opportunity to share their opinions and suggestions directly. The survey is being conducted on behalf of the Municipality of Debrecen and is coordinated by the EDC Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center. The survey is open for completion until the 20th of June 2024 and can be accessed at the following link: https://forms.office.com/e/C1u0bDhBpV.
This is the third survey conducted among expats in the city to understand how foreigners perceive Debrecen. The first time was in 2020 when the most frequently mentioned topic was the lack of information in English, so the Municipality of Debrecen has put a lot of emphasis on providing information in English, including information on public transport and local events. In 2021, a new international website called https://debrecen4u.hu was launched. This website is designed to assist foreigners who live in Debrecen or planning to move here for a shorter or longer period of time to get to know the city and the services available here, thus facilitating the decision to relocate, temporarily or even permanently stay in Debrecen.
In 2022, the process continued with another survey with a dual purpose. Firstly, the results were compared with those from 2020 to assess the impact of the implemented measures. Secondly, events such as the pandemic strongly affected the daily lives of foreign nationals residing in the country. The feedback showed that, despite the difficulties of the last two years, the overall impression of the city has improved significantly in almost all areas covered.
Despite the positive feedback, the city is continuing to make improvements for foreigners, therefore a new online survey is carried out in 2024 to assess the impact of the measures implemented over the past two years. Foreign residents have until 20 June 2024 to complete the questionnaire. (x)
