The police reported on Friday that a piece of concrete fell from a building’s balcony and hit a pedestrian on Holló János Street.
They stated that the 89-year-old man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As there were no indications of foul play, the Debrecen Police Department is investigating the incident as part of an administrative procedure.
The University of Debrecen informed haon.hu that the man passed away on Saturday evening.
He had been transported to the Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic of the University of Debrecen’s Clinical Center with a skull injury, where he underwent successful surgery the same day. However, his injuries were so severe that, despite professional medical intervention, his life could not be saved, the statement said.
