Debrecen Railway Station to be revamped

Local News

Minister János Lázár announced in a video message posted on his Facebook page that ten major railway stations with high traffic will be rebuilt under the direction of the Ministry of Construction and Transport. As part of the program, the Debrecen railway station will be reconstructed with private capital.

The minister added that the project’s essence is to separate railway operations from commercial functions, with the commercial areas being made available for private investment. He explained that the Debrecen station will resemble a shopping mall—part of it serving as a railway terminal, while the rest will house shops and commercial service units.

Lázár also mentioned that they seek private investment from Debrecen and other parts of the country. A tender will be announced, offering the opportunity to bid for the project. Along with Debrecen, the cities of Győr and Szeged will also be part of this program.

Debrecen is important to the citizens living there, and many people come to the city to work, creating jobs and livelihoods. This is why the government decided to facilitate easier travel to and from Debrecen, the minister added.
