On November 8, 2024, Szabados Richárd, the Secretary of State for SME Development and Technology at the Ministry of Economic Development, along with Debrecen Mayor Papp László, Deputy Mayor Barcsa Lajos, and Pécskay Zoltán, CEO of EDC Debrecen, visited the nearly completed first phase of the Debrecen SME Park.
As Szabados Richárd mentioned in his opening remarks at the press conference, the sight of SMEs in Debrecen was reassuring and suggested that similar initiatives should be implemented elsewhere. He expressed his awareness of plans for the second and third phases of the SME park, highlighting the importance of creating favorable conditions for businesses to invest, expand capacity, and build new production facilities.
The Secretary of State emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting businesses in areas where they can collaborate with universities, local organizations, and chambers of commerce. The Debrecen SME Park serves as an excellent example of such a business hub.
Papp László, the Mayor of Debrecen, showcased the location of the SME park in the Southern Economic Zone. He emphasized the significance of this zone in driving Hungary’s future economic growth. The mayor highlighted that the SME park, located within this larger industrial area, offers local SMEs the same infrastructure and conditions as multinational corporations.
Barcsa Lajos, Deputy Mayor, discussed the city’s comprehensive SME program, of which the SME park is a key component. He underscored the importance of SMEs to Debrecen’s economy and highlighted the city’s commitment to supporting their growth through initiatives like the Business 2030 program, which offers free training to SME employees.
