On May 10, 2025, the Deutsche Liga small-field football tournament took place at the BeStrong Sports Center in Debrecen.

Teams from Debrecen-based companies with German ties played 10-minute round-robin matches — a healthy and engaging form of corporate networking.

The event’s main sponsor was Schaeffler Debrecen, with additional sponsorship from Harro Höfliger, Diehl Aviation Hungary, and the Municipality of Debrecen.

The tournament was organized by the German Cultural Forum of Debrecen.
Football holds a prominent place in both German and Hungarian cultures. Through teamwork and the dignified spirit of competition, football sets a strong example for the professional world. The corporate league also fostered a multicultural atmosphere, where fans cheered in Hungarian, German, and English.

“The Deutsche Liga is an essential part of the #GermanPlusDebrecen campaign. For years, we’ve been raising awareness among Hungarian employees about the added value of German language skills. In today’s workplaces, those who can communicate in English and another foreign language — in Debrecen, that language is German — have the edge. Currently, around 50 German-affiliated companies operate in our city, providing livelihoods for thousands of families in the region.
This year, we expanded the football league into a family day so that children, too, could experience this blend of languages. While playing, they encountered Hungarian, German, and English — a mix that continues to enrich Debrecen’s cultural fabric,”

The Special Academy was once again invited to the tournament, reflecting the high value placed on inclusion and community responsibility in German corporate culture
