The European Tree of the Year has been searching for the most lovable tree with the most interesting story since 2011.
This year, we had amazing trees from all corners of Europe and as one of our national organizers said it, more than a contest, this is a celebration. A celebration of our trees, but most importantly their natural heritage and the importance of preserving them for future generations.
Since 2011, the number of countries involved in the contest has risen from 5 to 15.
The European Tree of the Year 2019 is the Almond Tree of the Snowy Hills in Pecs, Hungary. Congratulations! For 135 years, the almond tree in front of the Snowy Church has been thriving with flowers and visitors to Pécs. This almond tree is a symbol of eternal renewal and literacy at the county seat of Baranya.
