Hungary’s health-care workers are getting a free pass for all long-distance public transport services around the country, state secretary Tamás Schanda said at an online press conference of the operative board coordinating Hungary’s response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Health-care workers may travel free of charge on the passenger services of railway companies MAV and GYSEV, and of Volánbusz and other long-distance bus companies until the state of emergency is lifted, Schanda said. Later on Saturday, Budapest public transport company BKK said health-care workers may ride for free on local public transport in the capital, on the basis of a decision by Mayor Gergely Karácsony.
