Opposition LMP has called on the government to keep institutions educating children with special educational needs (SEN) open as long as possible during the pandemic.
LMP lawmaker Péter Ungár told an online press conference that distance learning could not be an alternative to early childhood development and special needs education, arguing that missing out on these could cause years of difficulties or even lifelong problems for the children concerned. Therefore, LMP would keep these institutions open as long as possible, and if they had to be closed due to the pandemic, help should be provided to the parents and special educators, he said. Ungár mentioned as an example that the cabinet should support purchases of particularly expensive online teaching aids as well as provide sick pay for parents of SEN students.
