Less cold but wetter weather is expected on the last weekend of January compared to the previous days. Rain and, in some cases, torrential rain and snow are also expected, according to the National Meteorological Service’s national medium-term forecast.
On Friday the sky will be mostly cloudy or overcast. Scattered rain is expected in the morning, then after a temporary break there will be more and more rain from the north and northwest, and snow may fall in the northeast. The wind is picking up and getting stronger in some places. Minimum temperatures between minus 3 and plus 4 degrees are likely. Daytime maxima are usually between 3 and 9 degrees, but they may be colder (1-2 degrees) in the northeast, milder (10-12 degrees) in the southwest.
By dawn on Saturday, the precipitation will stop in the Trans-Tisza region, during the day there may be only insignificant showers or possibly snow showers only in the northern counties. From the west, however, another zone of precipitation arrives; at night it is likely to rain mainly in the southern counties, but snow is expected in the northern part of the country. The wind is getting stronger in the eastern counties, and there may even be stormy gusts of wind there. In the coldest hours the temperature will be between minus 3 and plus 4 degrees, during the day it will be between plus 3 and 12 degrees, it will be colder in the North Central Mountains.
On Sunday, it is expected to rain in many places in the first half of the day; in the southern, southeastern counties, typically in the northwestern part of the country, it is likely to snow. In the afternoon the precipitation will start to stop in the northern counties, but in Southern Transdanubia it will become more and more snowy. The wind picks up, sometimes getting stronger. The lowest temperature is usually between minus 4 and plus 4 degrees. The highest temperature is likely to be between minus 1 and plus 5 degrees – read in the forecast.
