A campaign-like vaccination of people living in nursing homes and other residential institutions began on Thursday, the head of the National Center for Public Health’s epidemiology department announced on Thursday’s online press conference of the coronavirus control body on behalf of the operative board.
According to Ágnes Galgóczi, the vaccination campaign that has just begun affects a total of 1,845 institutions, mostly nursing homes, but other residential institutions, such as psychiatric institutions. There are 143 vaccine groups involved in the administration of vaccines.
Ágnes Galgóczi called it a goal to get to all nursing homes and residential institutions in the coming days, because, as she said, the infection endangers the elderly living in a larger community the most, in addition to health care workers.
She added that on Thursday, the vaccination teams will reach 220 institutions and, based on preliminary applications, will be able to vaccinate 13,000 residents, cared for and working people. She stressed that vaccination teams will also be intensively vaccinated on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Ágnes Galgóczi indicated that in the four nursing homes where vaccinations were started in early January, the second dose is already being given.
She said the next target group in the vaccination order would be the oldest people registered for vaccination.
The specialist continued to encourage the elderly to register for the vaccination for those who had not yet done so, and their family members asked them to help.
Presenting the epidemiological data, Ágnes Galgóczi said that 1569 new infections had been registered last day, increasing the number of identified cases to 363,450. There are 93 deaths, mostly elderly, chronic patients, so the number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic is 12,291. 3669 people are treated in hospital with complications of coronavirus infection, 255 are on ventilators.
The number of recovered people is constantly growing, there are now 249,003 of them, and the number of active infected people is decreasing, she explained.
She emphasized that, thanks to consistent control, domestic epidemiological data have improved, while the number of infected people in neighboring countries continues to rise. That is why it remains important for everyone to comply with epidemiological measures, she stressed.
