Fully 93 Covid patients, generally elderly and suffering from an underlying illness, died over the past 24 hours, while 1,652 new infections were officially registered, bringing the total number of infected to 371,988, koronavirus.gov.hu said.
The death toll has risen to 12,832, while 274,308 people have made a recovery. The number of active infections stands at 84,848, while there are 3,648 hospitalised Covid patients, 289 on a ventilator.
Altogether 19,633 people are in official home quarantine, and the number of tests carried out has risen to 3,210,549. Hungary began rolling out the coronavirus vaccine in December. So far, 249,687 people have received their first jab, and 84,452 have been fully inoculated. The government has extended coronavirus-related restrictions until March 1. Most infections have been registered in Budapest (68,969) and Pest County (46,269) so far, followed by the counties of Hajdú-Bihar (21,060), Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (20,765) and Győr-Moson-Sopron (20,693). The county least affected by the infection is Tolna (8,147).
Meanwhile, travellers from Hungary can enter Serbia without showing a negative coronavirus test or undergoing mandatory quarantine as of Thursday, the Serbian government said. Serbia has inoculated 513,000 of its seven million inhabitants with the US Pfizer-BioNTech, the Russian Sputnik V and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines, it said in a statement. The number of coronavirus infections in Serbia on Thursday was at 400,837, and the death toll was 4,071.
Serbia has earlier lifted travel restrictions with Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
