Defence Minister Tibor Benkő nominated Major-General Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi commander of the Hungarian armed forces at a staff meeting in Székesfehérvár, in central Hungary.
Ruszin-Szendi will replace Colonel General Ferenc Korom whom the minister relieved of his post last week. Korom was relieved starting June 1 at his own request. During his service, Korom oversaw the separation of the Hungarian army from the defence ministry and moved its headquarters to Székesfehérvár, and restructured the armed forces. Korom’s term was to have expired on May 15, 2023. Addressing the staff, Benkő praised Korom for achievements in the armed forces’ development since 2018.
