President János Áder has asked the Constitutional Court for a review of an amendment proposal that would allow tenants to purchase apartments in historical monument buildings, the President’s Office said.
The legislation that would make it possible to purchase state or municipal rental housing located in World Heritage Sites for individuals who have been renting apartments for at least five years was passed by parliament on June 15.
In his request, Áder said he considered the amendment unconstitutional because of the protected status of World Heritage Sites and historical monuments, the safeguards and guarantees resulting from the non-derogation clause, and the absence of individual consideration.
