Under a government decree which became effective on Thursday, associations and foundations will now have to indicate from whom they received any amount of money.
The data must be reported to the government on an annual basis, according to the legislation expanded by the new government decree.
They note that names must be presented, even if the money comes from a company or other organization. In such cases, it is necessary to indicate who is behind the donor, for example, in the case of companies, the names of persons who own at least 25 percent.
444.hu points out that in 2017, the government tightened the reporting obligation of civilians on donations in the first round. At that time, it was stipulated that any organization that receives more than 7.2 million forints of money from abroad in one year, must bear the label “organization supported from abroad” on official documents and publications, and they must report by name who their foreign sponsors are.
The EU Court of Justice found this law illegal, so the Hungarian parliament was forced to repeal it this year. Instead, the law was passed that organizations with at least HUF 20 million are audited by the State Audit Office every two years.
