The heat peaked, and the national daily heat record was broken, the National Meteorological Service said on its Facebook page on Thursday.
As they wrote: peaks across the country ranged from 33 to 40 degrees Celsius, with only a few stations measuring values below 35 degrees.
Until now, the daily heat record was 39.3 degrees on July 8, which was measured in 2015 in Budakalász.
Now it was almost a degree warmer than that: in Adony, Fejér County, the air warmed to 40.2 degrees.
It was noted that it was 39.2 degrees in Budakalász, which had reached its peak so far. In addition, 39 degrees were registered in Simontornya, Mosquito, Fehérvárcsurgo, Gyál, Kiskunhalas and Paks, they said.
Cecília Müller, the national chief medical officer, ordered her highest tertiary measure, the heat alarm, from Wednesday to Friday midnight.
The National Meteorological Service had previously warned on Thursday that the cold front would come from the west with heavy thunderstorms on Friday. On Friday, a second-degree warning was issued to the entire country over thunderstorms. Thunderstorms can be accompanied by stormy winds, heavy rain, and large pieces of ice.
The forecast is expected to be 16-24 degrees at dawn on Friday. Daytime maxima range from 25 to 37 degrees, with lower values in the northwest and higher values in the southeast.
On Saturday and Sunday, temperatures can rise to 32-33 degrees.
