Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo will give a free concert in Győr in honor of the healthcare workers on August 6 with the Győr Philharmonic.
The world has been shaken by an extraordinary epidemic, but Hungary has broken the third wave of the pandemic, with a performance that many envy.
The whole of society took part in the defense, with health workers working in a rather heroic struggle: this meant not only a huge physical but also a mental strain.
– reminded the Minister of Human Resources at the press conference of the concert in Budapest on Thursday.
Miklós Kásler added that the world-famous Plácido Domingo has long been a serious attraction to Hungarian music and Hungarian culture, coupled with his desire to give to people who have survived even in exceptional circumstances.
Speaking about the venue, he highlighted: Győr has all the conditions for such a concert. Plácido Domingo recalled that the epidemic had worn him and his family, so he felt even greater personal gratitude for the health workers.
The program of the concert in Győr also includes popular opera arias, operetta and zarzuela excerpts. Also performing are the 2017 winner of the Operalia opera competition founded by Plácido Domingo, soprano Adela Zaharia, Plácido Domingo Jr., and the winner of the latest edition of the Virtuosos, pianist Balázs-Piri Soma; the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Eugene Kohn on Dunakapu Square in Győr
– said the opera singer, who is also connected to Hungary as a member of the Virtuosos television talent search jury.
Eugene Kohn praised the performers and emphasized that Balázs-Piri Soma is a huge talent, and Adela Zaharia, born in Arad, has now matured into an international opera star, performing in the world’s largest opera houses. András Csaba Dézsi, Mayor of Győr, thanked Plácido Domingo for thinking of those who saved lives during the epidemic.
The mayor recalled that, as a practicing cardiologist, he himself had seen the burden and the loss of the epidemic. However, it is not enough to cure the disease, it is also necessary to treat the souls of the patients, and one of the best ways to do this is through music, he pointed out.
Balázs Simon Róbert, Member of Parliament for Constituency No. 1 in Győr, said that Győr is a worthy venue for the concert, as it is the third richest city in Hungary in terms of monuments, and the economic and cultural center of the West-Hungarian region celebrating its 750th anniversary.
The organizers announced that Hungarian health workers will be able to participate in the free concert in an organized manner, but other interested parties will also be able to register on the hellogyor.hu website.
