Europe has overtaken Hungary in terms of coronavirus vaccinations, an MEP of the opposition Socialists, István Ujhelyi, told a press conference streamed on Facebook.
“The government’s propaganda of success creates a false sense of security … we are far from herd immunity”. In the European Union, 71% of people on average have received at least one jab, while the ratio is 66.7% in Hungary, putting Hungary in 16th place in the bloc, he said, adding that Hungary was 10th in the EU list of fully inoculated residents, with 64.8%, noting that the ratio stood at 84.8% in Malta and 74.6% in Belgium. Ujhelyi warned that while heard immunity had been considered to require a 70% inoculation rate earlier, it was now supposed that 85-90% of the population must be vaccinated due to the more infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus.
