The number of people infected with the coronavirus may increase in Hungary now because the two vaccines received earlier do not provide enough protection, said Imre Kacskovics, immunologist and dean of the Faculty of Science at Eötvös Loránd University.
Experts recommend that everyone should get the third vaccine after 4-6 months.
The expert called it an “extremely good decision” that Hungary, for the first time in Europe, introduced the possibility of taking the third vaccine during summer.
For the third vaccination, it should be taken into consideration that if possible, people should not ask for another vector vaccine after a previous vector vaccine (such as Sputnik) because they can “extinguish each other” in some cases. He added that an unnecessary PCR test or antibody test should be performed before the third vaccination.
The latter may make more sense if the antibody level is checked later, long after the vaccination, said Imre Kacskovics.
He pointed out that the third vaccine could significantly strengthen the immune response against the virus, but not only improve the level but also the quality of the antibody.
“So the third vaccine, once 4-6 months has passed, restores immunity and in many cases raises antibody levels and protection to higher levels.”
– said the immunologist.
