Houses Became Uninhabitable Due to Strong Winds

Eight family homes have become temporarily uninhabitable due to the damage caused by strong winds on Sunday, and the 34 people living in them were received by relatives, a spokesman for the National Directorate General for Disaster Management (OKF) told MTI on Monday.

 

According to a statement by Dániel Mukics, due to windy weather, firefighters were alerted to 1,654 incidents on Sunday. They working continuously at 192 locations to repair the damage Monday morning. Most of their duties was in Pest County and Budapest. Only in Baranya county the storm did not cause any damage. In most places, broken branches and fallen trees provided work for the firefighters. Many fell on roads, houses, outbuildings, fences, cars and electrical wires.

One-third of the alarms came because of building damage, tiles hanging from a height, tin plates, billboards, and chimneys that had fallen, and in some places traffic lights had been torn down by the wind, the spokesman said. He reported that the wind had damaged 273 buildings, damaged the roofs of private homes and several churches, hospitals, doctor’s offices and other public buildings.

In Beled, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, the wind tore down the roof of a family house, from which a torn piece fell on a man in the yard. The OKF recommends assessing the damage around the residential properties and asking that the broken power line, damaged utilities and dangerously fallen trees be reported on the 112 emergency number.
