In Hungary, between March 7-13, influenza continued to intensify, the National Public Health Center said.
There are significant regional differences in the country. The number of patients seeing doctors per 100,000 inhabitants was the highest in Zala (670), Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (463) and Baranya (336) counties, and the lowest in Békés (50) and Komárom-Esztergom (73) counties. Diseases caused by influenza virus in sixteen areas (in the capital, as well as in Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Nógrád, Pest, Somogy, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Tolna, Vas , Veszprém and Zala counties).
March 7-13. between, 20,900 people in the country went to see a doctor with flu-like symptoms, up 11 percent from the previous week.
At week 10, the number of visits to the doctor with flu symptoms increased in fourteen administrative areas, decreased in four, and did not change in two compared to the previous week. Influenza-like illness remains invariably diagnosed among children aged 3–14 years. Forty-seven percent of patients admitted to the physician were under 15 years of age, 30.4 percent were 15-34 years of age, 15.1 percent were 35-59 years of age, and 7.5 percent were over 60 years of age.
At week 10, an accumulation of influenza-like illnesses was reported from two parts of the country. In a primary school in Fejér County, 78 of the 231 students and 6 employees had symptoms of fever, sore throat and cough. Out of 89 kindergartens and employees of a kindergarten in Baranya County, 41 children and 6 employees became ill with febrile upper respiratory symptoms.
Between the 40th week of last year and the 10th week of this year, a total of 1,108 laboratory tests confirmed influenza A virus in 188 cases, 148 cases of respiratory giant cell (RSV) virus infection, 21 cases of adenovirus infection, and 90 cases of coronavirus infection. Hospital-initiated diagnostic tests revealed influenza A virus in 120 cases and respiratory giant cell virus in 142 samples.
