The Cultural Association of Transcarpathian Hungarians (KMKSZ) has asked the Hungarian government to continue aiding Ukraine, do what it can to help bring an end to the armed conflict in the country and bring about peace.
Many Ukrainian citizens, including women and children, have fallen victim to the Russia-Ukraine war, and many have been forced to leave their homeland because of it, KMKSZ said in a statement. The residents of the Transcarpathia region, including ethnic Hungarians, are doing everything they can, with the support of the Hungarian government, to care for and take in refugees, the statement said. The outcome of Hungary’s parliamentary elections gives cause for hope that “the Hungarian
government will continue to care for refugees from Ukraine and aid ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine who are in a difficult situation,” KMKSZ said.
The association said it trusted that the government would continue to help Ukraine by following the lead of NATO when it came to the delivery of protective gear and the lead of the European Union on economic sanctions. KMKSZ said it welcomed that “Hungary has supported Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the European Union from the beginning”.
