More people with smallpox have been identified by experts from the National Center for Public Health (NNK), the NNK informed MTI on Friday.

A 35-year-old man living in Budapest and a 24-year-old man from Pest County have symptoms suggestive of smallpox. Infected people stay in their homes with mild symptoms, isolated, MTI said.

The territorially competent epidemiological authority has started the epidemiological investigations, and the contact research is ongoing – the communication states.

The NNK urges the public to see a doctor as soon as possible if they notice any symptoms suspected of having monkeypox.

The first case of smallpox was registered in Hungary last week.

The national chief physician said earlier that smallpox is a so-called zoonotic infection (animal-to-human) that does not spread easily from person to person, and the disease must be in close contact with the disease. Symptoms in the initial stage include malaise, headache, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes, followed by rashes, and blisters, typically on the face, hands, and palms, and then all over the body.
