Firecrackers are prohibited on New Year’s Eve this year, fireworks purchased from legal vendors can be used from 6:00 p.m. on December 31 until 6:00 a.m. on January 1, the communications service of the National Police Headquarters (ORFK) announced on police.hu on Tuesday.
Fireworks classified in the 1st and 2nd pyrotechnic classes can be obtained all year round, but the products classified in the 3rd class can only be purchased between December 28 and 31, they wrote.
Class 3 fireworks can be used between 6:00 p.m. on December 31 and 6:00 a.m. on January 1, and a permit is not required, the ORFK announced.
Unused pyrotechnic class 3 products, or any defective or expired product, must be returned to the distributor within five days after New Year’s Eve, who is obliged to take it back free of charge. Products belonging to the 1st pyrotechnic class can be purchased and used from the age of 14, those belonging to the 2nd class can be purchased and used from the age of 16, while those belonging to the 3rd class can only be bought by adults – they warned.
People were advised to buy pyrotechnic products only from licensed vendors. They drew attention to the fact that anyone who buys from an illegal seller puts himself and the environment at risk.
They added that the labeling of the legally marketed pyrotechnic product also contains an easy-to-understand user and handling guide in Hungarian, as well as an accident and health protection warning.
They also warned that fireworks should be kept away from other flammable materials. Always keep them away from children – they advised.
Setting off firecrackers, as in previous years, is also prohibited this year, and the possession of firecrackers is also prohibited – they emphasized, adding that anyone who violates this prohibition and sets off firecrackers commits an offense that can be punished with a fine of up to HUF 150,000.
Exploding firecrackers can cause extremely serious, even permanent injuries: limb damage and hearing loss can be the consequences, the statement said.
