The number of streaming subscriptions has increased significantly in Hungary

Video libraries and streaming providers are available in an increasing number of households in Hungary, last year more than two million adult Hungarian Internet users had at least one streaming subscription, which means a significant increase of 56 percent compared to 2021, according to the data of market researcher ‘gkid’ – Direct One announced to MTI- with. According to the streaming provider’s expectations, the market may expand by about a third this year.

According to the statement, the growing popularity is shown by the fact that the number of users of the Direct Now application among subscribers has increased by about 28 percent in the past year: the application has about 200,000 subscribers, and every 7th customer uses the app.

Based on the data, in addition to entertainment programs, subscribers are most interested in sports events: football matches and Formula 1 races are in first place.

The data also revealed that users are happy to use the replay and restart options, as this way they don’t miss the latest episode of their series, or they can relive the best moments of sports events, they wrote.

Almost seventy percent of Direct One subscribers regularly rewind the currently broadcast program or search for individual scenes. And more than half of the users like to watch the content a few days after the linear television broadcast, whenever and wherever they have time for it: at home, while traveling or even during vacation.

In the list of the most viewed VoD contents of the application, the Direct One channel topped the list for the seventh time in a row in April this year, which partly features its own content.

According to the survey, the continuous growth of streaming subscriptions is natural, as VoD, video-on-demand services allow, for example, users to choose which movie they want to watch, where and when.
