As of July 1, additional IC tickets and high-speed train additional tickets will be discontinued on MÁV-START and GYSEV trains, and they will be replaced by new, uniformly priced seat tickets for long-distance rail transport, Mávinform informed MTI.
Another change is that from Saturday, national passes can be used to travel in the second class of IC or other trains requiring a seat ticket – the announcement states. The pricing of smart tickets will also be adjusted to the new pricing system; overall, the amendments result in the new county and country passes offering even more passengers a cheap and simple solution for everyday travel, they added.
As it was written: the IC seat ticket in advance – i.e. redeemed for the day before the train departure will be 650 forints, and 990 forints if redeemed on the day of travel. The price of tickets for the premium (1+) class also varies, and you have to pay HUF 1,990 for them.
The price of the seat ticket will be changed uniformly to HUF 300 on trains with non-IC-quality carriages but requiring a seat ticket, or train sections, they added.
Holders of a national pass can travel in the second class of IC or other trains requiring a seat ticket – by redeeming the appropriate seat ticket. However, the county pass will still not be valid on trains or sections requiring a seat ticket, and in the first and premium (1+) classes, one of the two new price products – i.e. neither the county pass nor the national pass – will not be able to be used for travel, even the additional tickets not even in case of a purchase – they explained.
According to the information, the fares for kilometer-based tickets will also be changed. The full price will be 400 forints up to ten kilometers, 450 forints between 10.1-15 kilometers, 500 forints between 15.1-20 kilometers, 550 forints between 20.1-25 kilometers, and 600 forints between 25.1-30 kilometers, the price of one-way tickets in intercity transport on MÁV-START, Volánbusz, MÁV-HÉV and GYSEV flights – they listed.
At the same time, the price of tickets and passes valid for trams between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely will not be affected by the tariff reform, they added.
Also, from the first day of July, they continued, the smart tickets will also undergo a significant transformation. The most important change is that the smart ticket can only be redeemed in advance, no longer on the day of travel. At the same time, the redeemability of the smart ticket also changes, i.e. it can be redeemed no later than 12 hours before the start of validity.
In addition, the number of discounts for MÁV-START and GYSEV tickets purchased from vending machines and on digital platforms, i.e. on the Internet from ELVIRÁ or with the MÁV mobile application, will also change. In the case of automatic purchases, the previous 5 percent discount will cease, and in the case of tickets exchanged via digital interfaces, it will be 5 percent from now on.
What is new is that from July 1st, county and national passes will be accepted in Zalaegerszeg on the city bus routes operated by Volánbusz, and with the completion of the renovation of the M3 metro, from July 1st Budapest passes will no longer be available between Nyugati pályaudvar and Ferihegy to travel in trains or carriages.
Information about the new fare regulation can be found on the railway company’s website.
