According to an estimate based on the reports of doctors participating in the monitoring service, 23,300 people consulted a doctor with flu-like symptoms between March 18 and 24, the National Center for Public Health and Medicines (NNGYK) said in a report published on its website on Thursday.

According to the information, 207,900 people visited a doctor with symptoms of an acute respiratory infection.

In the 12th week, 40.5 percent of the patients who went to the doctor with a flu-like illness were children, 30.2 percent were 15-34 years old, 19.7 percent were 35-59 years old, and 9.6 percent were over 60 years old.

Last week, the frequency of people visiting a doctor with flu symptoms increased in 3 administrative areas (Békés, Fejér, Heves), decreased in 15 administrative areas, and remained unchanged in 2 areas (Hajdú-Bihar, Nógrád) compared to the previous week.

In the 217 respiratory samples sent to the laboratory, the proportion of the influenza virus was 9.3 percent, and the proportion of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was 0.6 percent.

156 people were admitted to hospital due to serious, acute respiratory infections, 17 of them needed intensive care, the NNGYK announced.
